Jon Nelson

Jon Nelson has an active career as performer, educator, producer and collaborator. As Associate Professor of Music at the (SUNY) University at Buffalo (UB), he is Teacher of Trumpet, Director of the UB Concert Band, Genkin Philharmonic, Pan American Ensemble, Ragtime Ensemble, and The Raymond Scott Project. Nelson has produced three CD recordings at UB that have brought together internationally recognized performers and students; Gran Calavera Electrica, Metalofonico!, and Genkin Philharmonic. He served as Principal Trumpet for the Festival Orchestra d’Aix en Provence in France under the direction of Pierre Boulez, and the Mineria Festival Orchestra in Mexico City. Active in the field of education, he has performed and taught at Tanglewood, Oaxaca Instrumenta, Lieksa Brass Week, Meridian Seminar@ECU, Bar Harbor Brass Week, Wellesley Composers Conference, Atlantic Brass Seminar, June in Buffalo, and the Festival Centro Historico in Mexico City. Jon Nelson holds a B.M. from The Juilliard School where he studied with Mark Gould. He has also studied with Antoine Cure in France, and Laurie Frink in New York.
