Barbara McCrane worked as a professional actor and singer for ten years
prior to training as an Alexander teacher. She received her teaching
certification upon completion of three years' work at the American Center
for the Alexander Technique in New York City. She did postgraduate
Alexander work at the Constructive Teaching Centre in London. While in
England, Barbara was very fortunate to study with Glynn MacDonald, Lucia
Walker, Elisabeth Walker, and Walter Carrington. The focus of Ms.
McCrane¹s private practice is performing artists, both students and
working professionals. She has taught classes at the Actors Studio Drama
School, the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, the Diller-Quaille School
of Music, the Juilliard School Evening Division, and the 92nd Street Y.
She has given workshops on the Technique at Manhattanville College, Hofstra University, and
with the Marine Corps Band in Washington, D.C. Her acting
résumé includes work in theater, television, commercials, and voice-overs.
She has performed in many musical theater productions, both in New York and
at reputable regional theaters, including the Williamstown Theater
Festival, the Pittsburgh Public Theater, and the Shakespeare Theatre of
