J. Jared Janas

Wig, hair, and makeup designer J. Jared Janas was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in mathematics. During his last month of college, a friend convinced him to volunteer at the student-run University Theater, where he was immediately put to work in the makeup and hair department. After learning how to age an actor with makeup and hair, he knew that this was what he wanted to pursue for the rest of his life. Jared did apprenticeships at the Lyric Opera in Chicago and at Top Priority (a men’s hair replacement company) in Manhattan. His professional break came when he was offered a staff position at the Santa Fe Opera in 2005. Since then, Jared has been a full-time freelance wig, hair, and makeup designer for theater, TV, and film.
