Horn player, arranger, and composer John Clark has performed all over the world with a wide diversity of musicians in a variety of musical arenas: jazz, pop, Broadway, classical, and studio work. Clark was awarded the MM degree from New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied horn, composition and improvisation. He established his jazz credentials with a series of recordings with his own band—the most recent being I Will on the Postcards label, nominated for Record of the Year by the National Association of Independent Record Dealers.

Johnson, the Absolute Ensemble, Jimmy Heath, James Moody, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, P. “Diddy” Combs, Sting, Leonard Bernstein, the Boston Symphony, the Jazz Composers’ Orchestra, the New York City Ballet Orchestra, the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Leroy Jenkins, Gerry Mulligan, Paquito d’Rivera, Natalie Cole, Luther Vandross, and Speculum Musicae.
Clark’s work has been performed and/or recorded by the Gil Evans Orchestra, McCoy Tyner Big Band, Paul Winter Consort, Genghis Barbie, and the Pugh-Taylor Project, among others. The recipient of a composition grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, a NARAS award for Most Valuable Player in the Recording Field, and a Downbeat “Critics Poll” award, he has appeared on HBO, PBS, The David Letterman Show, and Saturday Night Live and been a leader and guest artist at Sweet Basil, the Blue Note, Visiones, the Jazz Standard, Iridium, and the Knitting Factory. A Conn-Selmer artist, Clark conducts workshops and master classes and has published Exercises for Jazz French Horn. He is on the board of directors of the nonprofit Manhattan New Music Project, which sponsors educational programs in New York City public schools.
