Campus Tour

3:00 – 4:30 PM   Meet in the Main Lobby

A tour of select performance spaces, the music library, and the residence hall will commence at exactly 3:00 and finish around 4:30, with plenty of time before the 5:00 reception.

Alumni Homecoming Reception   *MAIN EVENT*

5:00 – 7:00 PM Registration required
Pay-what-you-will (suggested minimum: $40)

About the Registration Fee: We have tried to make the  reunions as affordable to as many alumni as possible, using  a "pay-what-you-will" honor system. Please be as generous  as possible so that the collective strength of our alumni will  help ensure our continued series of reunions.

Enjoy a reception (cocktails and hors d'oeuvres) in one of MSM's newest and most versatile performance venues. Meet up with old friends, make new ones, and visit with current faculty. At 6:00, we will toast the accomplishments of some of your colleagues during the Distinguished Alumni Awards Presentation.

Distinguished Alumni Awards Presentation

Presentation will begin around 6:00 PM.
A continuation of the Homecoming Reception, the Awards Presentation will recognize former students for their significant career accomplishments and/or service to MSM.

2012 Distinguished Alumni Honorees


 
Yusef Lateef (BM '69 / MM '70)
2010 NEA American Jazz Master
* Due to a scheduling conflict, Mr. Lateef will not be in attendance on Oct 19.
Yusef Lateef is a Grammy Award-winning composer,performer, recording artist, author, visual artist, educator and philosopher who has been a major force on the international musical scene for more than six decades. He is considered a pioneer in what is known today as “world music” and was named a 2010 American Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts. 

Jesse Rosen (BM '75)
President and CEO, League of American Orchestras
Jesse Rosen is President and CEO of the League of American Orchestras since 2008 and has been recognized as one of the outstanding thinkers incontemporary performing arts leadership. At the League, he has raised the level of debate about orchestras among the nation’s cultural, policy, and opinion leaders and among the League’s approximately 850 member orchestras. Prior to joining the League, he served as general manager of the Seattle Symphony,executive vice president and managing director of the American Composers Orchestra in New York City, orchestra manager of the New York Philharmonic, and vice president of programs for Affiliate Artists, Inc. He serves on the boards of the American Composers Orchestra, Performing Arts Alliance, and the Curtis Institute of Music.

Lauren Flanigan (MM '84)
Soprano
Lauren Flanigan has an active international career as an operatic soprano. She has enjoyed a particularly fruitful partnership with the New York City Opera,appearing frequently with the company since her debut in the 1990s. She has sung more than 100 different opera roles on stage during her career, often appearing in contemporary works or more rarely staged operas. Opera News stated that, “Flanigan has enjoyed one of the most distinctive careers of any artist of her generation,one marked by a high volume of contemporary works. Modern composers love her because of her innate musicality, dramatic power and lightning-fast skills and instincts.”


 "Outstanding Young Alumni" Award 
Alexandre Moutouzkine
 (MM ’01 / PS ’04 / AD ’05) 
Pianist
Alexandre Moutouzkine has appeared as piano soloist with such ensembles as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Berliner Symphoniker, and Brno Philharmonic Orchestra of the Czech Republic. His recital in London’s Wigmore Hall was hailed by International Piano magazine as “grandly organic, with many personal and pertinent insights, offering a thoughtful balance between rhetoric and fantasy…technically dazzling.” The winner of many renowned piano competition awards, Mr. Moutouzkine claimed top prizes at the Walter W. Naumburg,Cleveland, Montreal, and Arthur Rubinstein international competitions, as well as winning the Astral Artists’ 2009 National Auditions.
