The following is information about our reunion last year (2013), Wednesday–Thursday, October 16–18. 


FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2013: MAIN EVENT

Alumni Homecoming Reception &
Distinguished Alumni Awards Presentation
  

5–7:30 PM
Registration required – Suggested minimum payment: $40

Enjoy a reception (cocktails and hors d'oeuvres) in one of MSM's newest and most versatile performance venues. Meet up with old friends, make new ones, and visit with current faculty.

At 6 PM, we will toast the accomplishments of some of your colleagues during the Distinguished Alumni Awards Presentation:

  • Robert McGrath (MM ’59, voice) – “Bob” on Sesame Street for 38 years. http://www.bobmcgrath.com/
  • Dr. Cynthia Boxrud (BM ’78,theory) – A medical specialist in Facial Ophthalmic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and professor at UCLA. http://www.drboxrud.com/
  • “Outstanding Young Alumni” Award: 
    Kirill Gerstein (BM ’99 / MM’00, piano) – “On the fast track to a major career, and he deserves to be.” –Boston Globe. http://www.kirillgerstein.com/

We will also honor David Geber and David Gilbert, the 2013 recipients of the MSM Presidential Medal for Distinguished Faculty Service.

About the Registration Fee: We have tried to make the  reunions as affordable to as many alumni as possible, using  a "pay-what-you-will" honor system. Please be as generous  as possible so that the collective strength of our alumni will  help ensure our continued series of reunions.

  • PRESIDENTIAL INSTALLATION

    Celebrating Our Community
    Dr. James Gandre is installed as MSM’s Ninth President.
    Musical Interludes will be performed by the MSM Chamber Sinfonia conducted by George Manahan, soprano Tracey Chen '13, jazz bassist Dr. Ron Carter '61, jazz pianist Ted Rosenthal '81, and jazz drummer Justin DiCioccio '71.

  • OPEN CLASSES

    A selection of open classes, lectures, and rehearsals will be available for alumni to visit.
    12:30 – 4:30 PM

    A tour of selected performance spaces, the music library, and the residence hall will commence at exactly 3 PM and finish around 4:30 PM, with plenty of time before the 5 PM reception.

By all accounts, the recent Alumni Reunions were big successes. Hundreds of alumni and their guests came from all over the world and enjoyed seeing old friends and many former faculty members.
