2008 Audition Schedule and Other Important
Audition Information
PLEASE READ ENTIRE PAGE CAREFULLY!
To applicants applying for pre-screened majors: Faculty
members are reviewing pre-screen recordings now (December 2007).
All completed pre-screening results will be e-mailed to you on December
21, 2007. If you do not receive an e-mail dated December 21,** it
is because the faculty has not yet screened your recording. Reasons
for this could include the volume of prescreen recordings received
(i.e. Classical Voice and Jazz instruments, etc.), or the recording
was submitted after the December 1, 2007 deadline. Any recordings
not screened prior to the holiday break (December 22– January
6), will be screened after January 7, 2008. Please do not call for
your pre-screening results, as we will not release the results over
the phone.
** Make sure that your e-mail SPAM filter is set so that e-mails
from MSM will not be blocked. We will be sending all e-mails to
the e-mail address that you provided on your on-line application.
Although we are giving you access to the audition schedule, YOU
SHOULD WAIT TO RECEIVE YOUR SPECIFIC AUDITION DATE/TIME BEFORE MAKING
ANY TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS. Applicants will be notified by e-mail with
their specific audition dates/times by the end of January.
NOTE to International students needing an official audition
time letter for securing a Visa: You are asked to e-mail
your admission counselor as soon as possible so that an appropriate
letter can be created and mailed to you.
DMA Classical Applicants: Please be aware that
the DMA Comprehensive Exam will be given on Wednesday, March 5.
Interviews with the Doctoral Committee will follow on Wednesday
afternoon and continue all day Thursday, March 6. Please make sure
that in addition to your audition, that your schedule is clear for
the Exam and the Interview.
DMA Jazz Applicants: Please be aware that Part
1 of your audition, the Performance/Lecture will take place on Monday,
March 3, in the late afternoon. Part 2 of your audition, the Exam
and Interview will take place on Tuesday, March 4, morning and early
afternoon.
Scheduling Conflicts
Please avoid non-audition scheduling conflicts (such as performances,
recording sessions, etc.) during the 2008 audition week (February
29 through March 7, 2008). All the NYC schools work hard on coordinating
their audition schedules to help minimize conflicts for you, and
it is important that you make your auditions your priority that
week.
However, if you are aware of a SERIOUS pre-existing conflict on
one of the dates scheduled for your department, you may request
to be scheduled on another day on which your department is auditioning.
Though we cannot guarantee that you will receive the requested date,
we will make every effort to accommodate you.
Due to the large number of applicants we are only able to consider
requests of a CRITICAL nature (for example, another audition).
It is not possible to audition on any other dates than those specified
for your department. The March audition period is the only audition
period offered at Manhattan School of Music.
Undergraduate applicants should avoid requesting to be scheduled
on days reserved for graduates only and vice versa. This is for
your benefit.
To inform Manhattan School of Music of a CRITICAL conflict:
E-mail the following information to auditiondate@msmnyc.edu:
- Your name (as it appears on your application)
- Your complete date of birth (Month-Date-Year)
- The degree level to which you are applying (BM, MM, PS, DMA,
or AD)
- The division and major to which you have applied, ie CLASSICAL
Violin, ORCHESTRAL Violin, CONTEMPORARY Violin, JAZZ Violin
- Specific details of your conflict
- Please note that we will not accept any requests over
the phone.
Your request MUST be received by FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2008.
We are unable to consider anything received after that
date.
