The audio excerpts on this page are from performances and master
classes given by Manhattan School of Music students, faculty, and
invited guests. A wide variety of ensemble types, historical periods,
genres, and styles are represented here to give the listener a sample
of the rich musical life at Manhattan School of Music.
About the Preparation of These Recordings
Official concerts at the School are recorded for archival purposes
and are captured with a discrete use of microphones with no editing
(except where noted). The clips prepared for this page have been
edited in length to allow for reasonable loading time for a variety
of modem connections and band widths. The WAV file version of an
excerpt (available for some but not all) will provide the listener
with the closest experience to hearing a live concert, but will
require the longest loading time of the choices. The MP3 version
of each clip has been compressed to provide the best quality for
standard computer speakers, and yet still respect the dynamic range
of the performance. In other words: the WAV format will take most
users the longest to load, but will provide the highest unaltered
sound quality; the MP3 format will load quicker, but is of a somewhat
lower sound quality. Users must either have audio player software
or be willing to download a free version of RealPlayer to play these
clips.
We invite you to visit this page often as we plan to update and
add to these clips on an ongoing basis.
