The
programs of study for brass majors are designed to develop skilled
performers who are familiar with the standard solo, ensemble, and
orchestral literature for their instruments. Student must demonstrate
a high degree of professional competence and appropriate stylistic
approaches to the literature of various historical periods. All
students are required to fulfill their Ensemble Requirement as outlined
in their course sequence plans and as assigned by the School.
In addition to studies with our expert faculty, students are provided
additional opportunities to play for and observe world-renowned
guest artists. Recent master classes in this department have included:
American Horn Quartet, Hermann Baumann (orchestral horn), Tod Bowermaster
(horn), Dudley Bright (orchestral horn), William Caballero (orchestral
horn), Robert Early (orchestral trumpet), Rod Franks (orchestral
trumpet), Patrick Harrold (orchestral tuba), Bob Hughes (orchestral
bass trombone), Tim Jones (orchestral horn), Thomas Klaber (orchestral
bass trombone), Jim Maynard (orchestral trombone), John Rojack (orchestral
trombone), and James Sommerville (orchestral horn).
