Allen Sever received his bachelor of music degree from the Northwestern University School of music. He holds a master of sacred music degree from the Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music and studied on a Fulbright scholarship at the Royal School of Church Music in London. His teachers include Clarence Dickinson, Barrett Spach, Thomas Matthews, Ernest White, Claire Coci, Sir William McKie, and Sir William Harris.
He has made concert appearances with the Welch Chorale; the John Harms Chorus; the Ars Musica Chorale; the choirs of St. James’s Church and St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City; and the Mount Desert Chorale in Northeast Harbor, Maine. He has given organ recitals in St. Paul’s Chapel at Columbia University, St. Bartholomew’s Church, the Huntington Hartford Museum, Temple Emanu-El, and West End Collegiate Church. He has made recordings with the Welch Chorale (James Welch, conductor) and the Choir of Hebrew Union College (Morris Baras, conductor) and has been the accompanist for cantorial recordings produced by Barry Serota. Mr. Sever is a member of the American Guild of Organists and holds the degree of associate of the American Guild of Organists. He is currently organist and choirmaster of the West End Collegiate Church and of the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, both in New York City. He is the accompanist at Hebrew Union College and a member of the organ faculty of Manhattan School of Music.
