Richard DeRosa has toured and recorded with Gerry Mulligan, Bob Brookmeyer, Susannah McCorkle, Jackie Cain & Roy Kral, Chuck Wayne and Marlene Ver Planck. Other performances with notable musicians include Gene Bertoncini, Marian McPartland, Peter Nero, Warren Vache and Larry Elgart.
Mr. DeRosa has arranged music for Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Mel Lewis, Gerry Mulligan and Glenn Miller big bands and vocalist Susannah McCorkle. In October of ’08, DeRosa arranged and conducted “What a Wonderful World”, featuring Toots Thielemans, as part of the NEA Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony at Lincoln Center. In February of ’09, he was commissioned to arrange three selections for Norah Jones as part of the Two Men Sing the Blues coneert in the Rose Theater that featured Norah as a special guest along with Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis. Mr. DeRosa has also served as co-arranger, orchestrator and conductor for the critically acclaimed recording projects, Dial & Oatts: Brassworks and When Winter Comes featuring guitarist Fred Fried. His most recent arrangements are featured on Dominick Farinacci’s new CD - Lovers, Tales and Dances that was released on Koch records in February ’09.


His compositions for television include background music cues for Another World, As the World Turns, The Guiding Light and commercials for Telex, Bristol-Meyers and Kodak in addition to various documentary films broadcast on PBS and music scores for the national touring theater company, ArtsPower.


He is the author of Concepts for Improvisation: A Comprehensive Guide for Performing and Teaching (Hal Leonard Publications) and Acoustic and MIDI Orchestration for the Contemporary Composer (Focal Press). DeRosa’s service to teaching was recognized in the 3rd edition (1994) of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
