What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a computer or device to provide data to a website. MSM utilizes cookies to help customize its website visitors’ browsing experiences, save site settings, and identify registered users. These cookies do not automatically store personal information, and they cannot be read by other websites. MSM uses cookies only to provide relevant web content and services specific to individual website visitor’s interests or site activity. Declining cookies from MSM’s website will not affect a website visitor’s access to our web pages, but may prevent a visitor from taking full advantage of some features offered on its website.

Managing Website Cookies

Cookies can be managed through your personal browser settings. To learn more, refer to the support instructions for each browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari). Be aware that disabling or deleting cookies can impact your ability to use certain features of that website. If disabling or deleting cookies, repeat this process for each browser and computer used.

Information use and distribution

MSM will treat any personally identifiable information that is collected on this website in a secure manner.

MSM may use personal information collected from its websites for the purpose of future communication about upcoming events or available programs, offers, updates, and reminders. A user may opt-out of these mailing lists at any time.

MSM may use personal information collected in connection with a specific function only to support that function. For example, a user may opt to complete and submit a mailing list request, an application form, or a registration form. Requests for information and private communications submitted through MSM services are not monitored.

MSM may also share your personal data with government and law enforcement agencies or regulators to:

  • comply with a legal process, subpoena, order or other legal or regulatory requirement applicable to us,
  • enforce our terms of use or other policies, or
  • pursue available legal remedies or defend against legal claims.

User non-personal and/or de-identified information (such as a user’s browser software or the page a user requested) may be distributed to third parties to facilitate site analytics. This information is generally used to improve web presentation and utilization. Additionally, MSM may use this information for system administration (e.g., troubleshooting) purposes.

Third-party sites

We share your information internally at MSM to facilitate and manage the purposes listed above. This includes third parties whom MSM engages to process your personal information on our behalf for the purposes stated above, such as vendors who help MSM with our communications, application processing, and web hosting. MSM will not sell, rent, or lease mailing lists or personal information to third-party organizations. Contact information provided to MSM is kept confidential and used only for the purposes specified when it was collected. MSM will not distribute a user’s personal information to third parties unless a user provides explicit consent to have their personal information shared with an identified third party or MSM has a good faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of the information is reasonably necessary to:

  • satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request
  • enforce applicable MSM policies, including investigation of potential violations of MSM policies or procedures, or detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues
  • protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of MSM, MSM’s faculty, staff, students, users or the public as required or permitted by law.
