Members of the 06-07 Faculty Council

The Faculty Council, which has been in existence for over two decades at Manhattan School of Music, is a body of volunteer faculty members elected by the faculty at large to represent and consider their interests and issues. Historically, the Council is responsible for writing and revising the Faculty Handbook and Bylaws which accompany faculty contracts each year and which govern and empower the faculty.

Our goal is to facilitate communication with:

  • The faculty, by hearing and addressing their concerns
  • The administration, by inviting various guests to our meetings
  • The Senior Staff, by attending meetings and updating them on our activities
  • The Executive Officers, by holding a monthly meeting in order to find solutions and resolutions for faculty concerns and issues

Being Heard and Getting Involved

There are various ways to communicate with the Faculty Council and to be involved in Council activities.

One way is to e-mail us directly at facultycouncil@msmnyc.edu. Another way is to write down your concerns and deposit them in the box to your immediate right as you walk past the mailboxes on your way into the mailroom. If you would rather discuss an issue(s) with the Faculty Council in person, you can — by calling or e-mailing — arrange a date and time to meet with the Council to air your concern(s).

Your final and most involving option is to run for a seat on the Faculty Council. Nominations are accepted each year in April. You can nominate yourself, or a colleague can nominate you. Elections are held at the end of April with notification of election results posted in early May. E-mail us if you would like more detailed information.
