As one of the largest private conservatories in the United States, Manhattan School of Music is dedicated to providing the highest possible caliber of musical and educational training for exceptional young musicians from around the world. The School’s mission is to produce mature, responsible adults who are committed to utilizing the power of music to improve the quality of life in contemporary society. The College awards bachelor’s, master’s and doctor of musical arts degrees to deserving candidates in the fields of classical music and jazz. In both fields we offer instrumental and vocal disciplines as well as composition. The Precollege Division trains 500 children ages 5 – 18 on Saturday’s throughout the academic year. This effort is costly and, therefore, Manhattan School of Music relies on friends, alumni, and music lovers to assist in meeting the financial needs of the institution.

Financial support makes a very big difference to Manhattan School of Music. It enables the School to meet the needs of a world-class conservatory. In today’s challenging economy, a gift to Manhattan School of Music makes the difference by enabling a student to receive a well-deserved, much-needed scholarship or provide programmatic support that will enrich the students’ academic and musical understanding.

The nature of music education is based upon one artist passing his or her artistry on to the next generation, thus resulting in many hours of private instruction and the need for an extensive faculty. All of this makes music education expensive. Your contribution provides the scholarship funds necessary for students to take advantage of a superb teacher-artist faculty in both the College and Precollege Divisions. In addition, Manhattan School of Music wishes to significantly improve its physical facilities. The newest and most visible manifestation is the G. Chris and SungEun Andersen Hall, a new 19-story facility that allows us to provide housing and practice space. The new building will have additional recital space, a state of the art library, and expanded video-conferencing facilities. We also refurbished the Gordon K. and Harriet Greenfield Hall (formerly Hubbard Recital Hall).

Gifts can be made to Manhattan School of Music to the Annual Fund and the Endowment Fund. Manhattan School of Music also encourages corporate matching gifts. The School provides many methods for making your gift to the School. Institutional gifts provide a major source of funding through national and state government programs, private foundations and corporations. Manhattan School of Music receives support through these entities that enriches its programs and aids in its scholarship efforts. Deciding what to give, when to give it and how to shape that gift is just as important a part of supporting Manhattan School of Music. Through effective estate planning you can also help the School plan for tomorrow.

Donors may make a general contribution which supports the School’s annual operating budget, or make a gift which is designated for a specific purpose or existing fund at the School. Whichever you choose, the staff in the development office will be pleased to assist you so that your gift meets both the needs of the School and your wishes.

Your gift to Manhattan School of Music, regardless of the amount, is a way to assure that Manhattan School of Music continues to meet its goal of providing superior music education to talented students.

The Department of External Affairs is happy to work with donors to facilitate giving to any area at Manhattan School of Music.
