Welcome to Manhattan School of Music

Manhattan School of Music is an international, preeminent conservatory located in New York City, offering instruction in classical and jazz music. Our School provides the resources an exceptional music student needs to become a professional musician: rigorous training, a well-rounded curriculum, a distinguished faculty, quality performance experience, and a truly supportive learning environment.

As a student here, you will find a friendly environment to help ease your transition and achieve your musical ambitions. Currently, about 40% of our students come from over 40 foreign nations. International students form an important part of our community. They are some of our most gifted and motivated members and enrich campus life with a multitude of diverse cultural traditions and perspectives. The School also has a full-time international student advisor who organizes events specially designed for international students and is available to assist you with your particular needs.

We offer undergraduate, graduate, professional studies, and doctoral programs. We also have a precollege division for students from age 5 to 18.  All instruction at the School is conducted in English; and we are happy to direct our international students to resources, such as the American Language Program (ALP) at Columbia University, that help bring English language skills up to the required level of proficiency.

Programs of study at Manhattan School of Music include:

  • Bachelor of Music, Undergraduate Diploma, Master of Music, Postgraduate Diploma, Doctor of Musical Arts, Professional Studies Certificate, and pre-college Precollege Studies
  • Majors in classical performance include orchestral instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and harp), voice, piano, guitar, organ, and saxophone. Majors also include accompanying, conducting, orchestral performance, classical composition, and jazz (instrumental, vocal, and composition)

A degree from Manhattan School of Music can help you launch a successful music career. Graduates of our School are active as soloists and members of leading orchestras and ensembles; serve on the faculty of distinguished conservatories and universities; and perform in major concert halls, operatic stages, on Broadway, and in jazz venues.

International applicants should initiate required visa processes and other international legalities well in advance of deadlines. More detailed information for applicants to the College division is provided in English at the following links within the site:
