The Office of Student Life has references
for living in the city. There is a housing registry that is a list
of rooms and apartments available for rent in the area. Many of the
neighbors listing their rooms or apartments, have housed our students
for years and love having Manhattan School of Music students live
in their apartment, home or building. In addition, staff can refer
you to helpful guides available with information about finding housing
in the city and knowing your rights as tenants.
The housing registry is a regularly updated information source
which lists available apartment rental opportunities and apartment
share opportunities, as well as the occasional opportunity to live
rent-free in exchange for services such as babysitting, dog-walking
or errand-running. Please note that we do not inspect apartments
on the list, nor do we take any responsibility for the quality of
rooms or apartments. The list of off-campus housing is available
to current and new students in the Office of Student Life.
Please keep in mind that all undergraduate students must live in
the Andersen Hall during their first and second year. Exceptions
are made for students who are married or have special medical needs.
Requests for exemptions from the housing requirement must be made
in writing each year, as the housing forms are due. The exemption
request is sent to the following address:
Director of Student Life
120 Claremont Avenue
Manhattan School of Music
New York, NY 10027
