The Office of Alumni Affairs maintains contact information for
former students in order to keep alumni informed about the School
and alumni activities. The accuracy of this data is important to
timely communication, including employment opportunities as they
arise. We give alumni access to this information through online
and print media outlined on this page.
Alumni can be assured that the School maintains strict confidentiality
of this information and does not sell it to outside individuals
or organizations.
Online
Community and Directory
The Manhattan School of Music Online Alumni Community was launched
in fall 2007. To date we have had over 2,800 alumni from
around the world register. (See select
comments below.) The Online Community will be an important conduit
for news and information about the School and future alumni activities.
Membership is free and exclusive to alumni only. All you need to
do to take advantage of all the community has to offer is to proceed
through the registration
process to establish a User ID and Password.

Alumni Comments:
Here are a few comments and some feedback we’ve received
alumni:
"So great to be part of the MSM community, even from afar."
—Elaine Smith Purcell, 1995 (Newton, Massachusetts)
"It was so nice to hear from MSM. I have registered online
Alumni Directory and hope to get in touch with other friends from
now on."
—SungTaek Oh, 2001 (Ontario, Canada)
"Thanks for the link to the new online alumni directory,
and congratulations on this marvelous new tool!"
—Gayle Hathorne, 1977 (Shawnee, Kansas)
"This is very hip! Thank you so much for thinking of doing
this! I look forward to connecting with musicians I met at MSM
20 years ago!!!"
—George Robert, 1987, Director, Jazz Department, Lausanne
Conservatory, (Switzerland)
"This is great! I just hired a violinist for a Messiah performance
at my church -- didn't get her phone number, but was able to look
her up on the directory to get a timely message to her. This is
a great news sharing networking tool that I wish we had always
had."
—Eric Birk, 1988, Organist & Choir Director, Flatbush-Tompkins
Congregational Church (New York City)
Ethel Fisher, Class of 1958, told us how she used the Directory
to e-mail a former classmate who now lives in Philadelphia. They
spoke after many years and were even able to get together in person
for old times sake.
Print Directories
"I appreciate everyone's efforts in compiling
this Alumni Directory. Previous editions have served me well and
I'm glad to receive this updated version.
—Ed Mikenas, MM ’71 Double Bass
A "thank you" to the thousands of alumni who participated
in the 90th Anniversary Alumni Directory project. We have completed
the detailed and complex process of gathering up-to-date contact,
career, and academic information on our over 10,000 former students.
Hard- and soft-cover editions, as well as a CD-ROM version were
published this summer. Each alumna/nus was given the option of not
being included in this publication.
The Directory was compiled and published by
Harris Connect, a leader in college alumni directories. Orders
were taken and Directories were mailed in the fall of 2008 to all
alumni who paid for a directory through Harris Connect. No additional
Directories are available.

The School printed an Alumni Directory in 1994 and again in 2001.
The 2001 edition was offered for sale in soft- and hardback editions
as well as on CD-ROM to those alumni who ordered at the time of
printing (all issues have been sold and delivered). Each alumna/nus
was given the option of not being included in these publications.
