Major Lesson/Jury Examination Grading
If a student receives a grade between C+ and D- for major lessons
or a Jury Examination, the Dean of Academics, Dean of Students,
Department Chairperson, and major teacher may meet to discuss the
general quality of applied work. If it is agreed that the grade
is not representative of the student’s work, probation will
not result, but the grade will remain on the student’s transcript.
If probation results, it will be for one semester. The student is
then reevaluated through a Jury Examination at the conclusion of
the following semester. If the student receives a B- or higher,
he or she is taken off probation; if the grade remains between C+
and D-, probation continues until the Jury Examination at the conclusion
of the following semester. If the quality of work does not improve
by that time, the student will be dismissed.
Students who receive a failing grade for major lessons or Jury
Examination are immediately dismissed from the School. Dismissals
and probation are permanently recorded on the transcript.
Classwork Grading
If a student receives either a D+, D, D-, F, in one class, he or
she receives a concern or warning letter from the Registrar. If
a student receives more than one of these grades, the student will
be subject to probation or dismissal.
American Language Program Progress Grading
If a student receives below a B- for an ALP course or fails to
progress at least one level each semester, he or she may be placed
on probation. A second semester of non-satisfactory progress will
result in dismissal of the student.

Incomplete Grades
Incomplete grades can be given only with the approval of the Dean
of Academics in consultation with faculty members. An I will appear
on a student’s permanent transcript indicating late completion
of the course. Once the work has been completed and a grade has
been issued by the faculty member, the I will be changed to a permanent
letter grade. Students receiving incomplete grades are required
to complete all work by the end of the following semester; if the
work is not completed, the I will be changed to an F automatically.
