Barnard College at Columbia Cross-Registration Program

Manhattan School of Music and Barnard College of Columbia University established a special cross-registration program in 1982. This program allows students enrolled at Barnard College to audition to take private lessons in certain areas of study with members of our faculty and also allows qualified Manhattan School of Music undergraduate students to have access to a greater variety of humanities courses taught at Barnard.

Current Manhattan School of Music Students Wishing to Take Classes

Current Manhattan School of Music undergraduate students (Juniors and Seniors only) who are interested in taking courses at Barnard should contact the Office of the Registrar at Manhattan School of Music for details, restrictions, qualifications, and forms.

Barnard Students and Applicants Wishing to Apply for Lessons

Manhattan School of Music provides the selected Barnard participants with advanced training on the conservatory level in the classical division (all orchestral instruments, piano, and composition) as well as in jazz (instrumental performance only). Please note: This program is not available for jazz voice or classical voice lessons, as voice instruction is available at Barnard College. In addition, jazz composition, organ, accompanying and all classical contemporary lessons are not available. All lessons are with current members of the Manhattan School of Music faculty, which include members of New York's premiere performing ensembles and established solo and recording artists.

Submission of an application to the Manhattan School of Music/Barnard program does not include any of Manhattan School of Music's regular degree and diploma programs. Please note the Cross-Registration Program includes private lessons only; please contact Barnard College for information about ensemble and performance opportunities at Barnard.
