2009 Kurt Masur Conducting Seminar
At Park Avenue Armory
New York City / April 22–25, 2009

Designed for conductors, between ages 24–35 (inclusive) in calendar year 2009. An intensive study, rehearsal and performance with Manhattan School of Music orchestral students, under the guidance of Maestro Kurt Masur. The Seminar is tuition free for all successful applicants. On the occasion of its fifth annual Kurt Masur Conducting Seminar, Manhattan School of Music is proud to partner with Park Avenue Armory, which will host the seminar.

Seminar Repertoire

Works of Felix Mendelssohn (200th birthday celebration):
Symphony No. 5 in D Major, op. 107 (“Reformation”)
Symphony No. 4 in A Major, op. 90 (“Italian”)
Ruy Blas Overture, op. 95

Application Process

All applicants must submit a résumé and application, downloadable by clicking here (application form) along with $100 application fee made payable to Manhattan School of Music. Include a DVD recording of applicant’s conducting (maximum of 20 minutes, with two contrasting works from the standard repertory).

Application Deadline

Extended Deadline — November 17, 2008.
Materials received after this date will not be accepted. Maestro Masur will review all applications and recordings. His decisions will be final, and applicants will be notified, by e-mail, of acceptance status by January 30, 2009.
