Tours:
Manhattan School of Music welcomes all prospective applicants and
their families to take an Admission Office tour of its facilities.
The tour of the School takes visitors through the four main performance
halls, the music library, and the larger practice room spaces. The
tour, which lasts approximately one half-hour, is immediately followed
by an information session given in the main floor lobby. The information
session provides applicants with an overview of the application/admission
calendar, as well as an opportunity to ask questions and discuss
matters of specific concern to them.
During the academic year (September through May) tours are typically
given at 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and at 2 p.m.
on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the summer months tours are given
on Mondays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. You may call 212-749-2802, ext.
2 to make an appointment.
(Please note: tours of the School are not available during certain
weeks in the academic year. Therefore, we advise visitors to call
for an appointment at least a week or two in advance, to ascertain
that tours are being offered on the desired dates. Also note that,
for security reasons, unescorted visitors are not permitted on campus.
To view the campus, visitors must either be signed in as a student's
or faculty's guest or as a participant in an official tour.)
Public Performances and Master Classes:
Each academic year features more than 400 regularly scheduled symphony,
opera/vocal, chamber music, and jazz performances, as well as faculty
and student recitals. Master classes are also presented by internationally
renowned artists coaching current students in a variety of repertoire.
Many of these events are open to the public, and most are free and
do not require tickets or other prior arrangements. To obtain further
information, please visit our online calendar,
or call the concert line at (212) 749-2802, ext. 4528, for a recorded
listing of the week's events (updated every Monday).
Special Class Visits:
To further enrich prospective applicants' visits, special class
"sit-ins" may be scheduled for those interested in observing the
learning process in action. Please contact our Admission Counselor,
at least one week in advance of your anticipated visit, if
you would like to sit in on a music theory, music history, ear-training,
sight-singing, composition, humanities, and/or large ensemble rehearsal,
if available. (Because class availability may be limited due to
tests, cancellations, or auditions, the Office of Admission is not
able to accommodate requests which are not made with at least one
week's notice.)
