Supervises: Student Employees
Internal Contacts: Offices of Enrollment, Media and Communications, IT; Students
External Contacts: High School Guidance Counselors, Administrators of Youth Orchestras and Competitions, Digital Vendors
Employment Status: Full-time; Non-exempt

Position Summary

Manhattan School of Music (MSM) is looking for an energetic marketing and social media content creator to join our team. The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of effective design and marketing copy; is passionate about music, the arts, and education; and is a digital native who understands current content marketing trends on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok. The Digital Marketing Associate will collaborate with both the Media and Communications team and the Admissions team to create and share compelling text, images, and video content, identifying and connecting with pipelines and influencers across the globe.

The Digital Marketing Associate will work closely with the Admissions team to develop engaging and strategic content with calls to action for social media, email, the website, email marketing, and more, with the goal of attracting and retaining best-fit music students. Generated content will highlight key MSM messaging, as well as news, events, and performances at MSM, and showcase high-profile successes of MSM students, alumni, and faculty.


Content Creation

  • Write and produce well-written, targeted content for websites, social media, blogs, email campaigns, newsletters, and print.
  • Perform photo selection and editing; coordinate photo and video shoots.
  • Provide graphic design for email campaigns and social media using platforms such as Canva.

Enrollment Marketing Outreach and Research

  • Support the Enrollment team in growing MSM’s domestic and international pool of applicants.
  • Identify names and contact information for market outreach:
  • Target groups to include high school guidance counselors, youth orchestras, competitions, etc.
  • Provide outreach and follow up via email, letters, or phone calls.
  • Assist with enrollment emails and key enrollment events, including audition days.
  • Assist with online digital marketing campaigns.

Social Media & Project Management

  • Produce engaging and strategic admissions content for MSM’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok feeds.
  • Work with MSM’s Design Office and Admissions teams to ensure timely production of marketing materials.

Job Requirements

  • One to two years of experience working in social media, marketing and communications, design, or music, arts, education, or non-profit organizations
  • Strong writing, editing, researching, interviewing, proof-reading, and fact-checking skills with a high attention to detail
  • Exceptionally strong social media production and management skills
  • Strong visual and story-telling sense with solid photography and video production skills and knowledge of video editing a plus
  • Highly organized, punctual, and hard-working with strong time management skills
  • Demonstrated passion for and background in music and education a major plus
  • An ability to work occasional evenings or weekends, as needed
  • Knowledge of WordPress, MailChimp, Canva, Adobe CS, iMovie, Slate, basic HTML/CSS or similar platforms a plus
