Senior Accountant

Position Description

Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Business and Finance
Reports To: Associate Vice President of Finance and Controller

External Contacts: Student Insurance Brokers and Vendors, Regulatory Agencies, Vendors
Employment Status: Full-time; Non-exempt
Salary Range: $78,000 – $87,000

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance and Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting transactions in support of the Business and Finance Office. This position requires a strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, treasury and gift functions, financial systems and internal controls, and the ability to prepare bank and account reconciliations, analysis, and journal entries. The position also requires close attention to detail and the ability to work well independently as well as with other finance staff and departments on campus.

Domains

  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts.
  • Review and monitor balance sheet accounts, including analysis of Trial Balance/General Ledger; perform adjustments on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare monthly required analyses and schedules.
  • Maintain Fixed Assets module and related schedules.
  • Ensure cash receipts are deposited.
  • Prepare and record monthly closing entries.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting revenue & expenses.
  • Ensure the Accounting and Financial policies & procedures are being followed.
  • Reconcile investment accounts, and make appropriate entries as needed.
  • Complete quarterly 941 reconciliation.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation between Raiser’s Edge and Jenzabar.
  • Function as back up support to Accounts Payable and Payroll.
  • Work with senior finance staff to assist in preparing requested financial reports.
  • Assist with annual audits.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by Controller or Assistant Controller.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA or CPA-eligible, preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferably in the Non-Profit or Government sectors.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient with Accounting General Ledger software and Microsoft Office Suite, or similar software, including strong Excel and Word skills.
  • Ability to research problems and develop solutions with minimal guidance.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a flexible attitude.
  • Motivated and capable of independent work.
  • Discretion with regard to confidential information.
