There will be a mandatory, in-person orientation for this course on January 11, 2018 from 4-5:30PM in Rahm Hall on the 2nd floor.

At this meeting, you will meet your new instructor, Dr. Grayman, and we will go over how you will actually take this course.

Canvas LMS “Basics Guide”

What is Canvas LMS?

Canvas Learning Management System is cloud-based software suite, offering a wide variety of tools to support education and learning for both live, traditional classrooms as well as online, digital settings.
What's it to me?

If you are reading this, your instructor is using Canvas to support your in-class learning. On a fairly regular basis, you will be expected to log into the Canvas Portal to do anything from checking the course syllabus and reviewing course materials, to submitting assignments and participating in online discussions. How, and how much, you are required to use Canvas will be determined by your instructor and will be outlined at the start of the term.
Where do I find Canvas?

Option 1: use the URL msmnyc.instructure.com

Option 2: Through the MSM Student Portal.

Option 3: Download the Canvas by Instructure App from iTunes or GooglePlay stores to your phone or tablet. Enter msmnyc.instructure.com. Follow the login prompt as described below.

What's Next?

Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see the Canvas Dashboard. Here you’ll find a list of any individual class portals for any classes in which you are enrolled.

From this page you can also find links to your Account Settings, Inbox, Calendar, and the Help as well as a few other tools.

Click anywhere on the course card to enter your course’s portal.
What will I find in the portal?

Once in the course portal, you’ll find a variety of links navigating you to different pages within the course portal. Each course has been designed and organized differently by each instructor so, at this point, you may see some different options than shown in the image.

Now you’ve got the basics! Explore the course portal and get a feel for how your instructor organized their course. Soon you will be given an introduction, specific to your course, outlining what you can expect and what will be expected of you throughout the term. Stay tuned!
