Laura Sametz (MFA, NYU Tisch Graduate Acting Program) teaches acting in the Musical Theatre Program at Manhattan School of Music. She believes in the vital importance of the text and the story the writer has written. Laura helps her students discover their own voices while strengthening their capacity to stay present, listen, and respond.
As an actress, Laura performs in numerous classical and contemporary stage productions, TV, and film, including New York premieres of plays by John Patrick Shanley, Joshua Sobel, and Leslie Lee. She performed on Broadway at The Brooks Atkinson Theater in Cafe Crown as Eli Wallach’s daughter. Other New York theaters where she has performed include the Public Theater and Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte, Manhattan Theatre Club, Playwrights Horizons, the HB Playwrights Theatre, and the Metropolitan Playhouse. Regionally, she has performed at Baltimore’s Center Stage, the Alliance Theatre, NY Stage and Film’s Powerhouse Theater, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, George Street Playhouse, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and more. Her TV credits include Gypsy, The Following, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, As the World Turns, New York News and When I Grow Up (pilot). Her film work includes It Had to Be You with Cristin Milioti, Wayward Son with Harry Connick, Jr., Everything Is Ordinary, and The Ride Home directed by Sam Hoffman.
Laura has studied acting with Larry Moss, Ron Van Lieu, and Harold Guskin; Shakespeare with Nora Dunfee and Patsy Rodenburg; Clown with Christopher Bayes; and the Alexander technique with Jessica Wolf.
Laura privately coaches actors, singers, and dancers in New York City.
