A five-day event July 12-16 bringing together percussionists from around the world for classes, round table discussions, concerts, and more.
A Message from the Organizers
We invite you to join us for our second MSM Percussion Summit as we emerge together from a hibernation imposed on us by COVID-19.
The response to the first MSM Percussion Summit announced last April at the start of the lock-down was so instantaneous and enthusiastic that we’ve decided to create a second gathering as we begin to come out of this very unusual year for us all.
Last year for the first Summit, we came together in isolation. This year we build on the challenges the percussion community has faced after a year of mostly private practice and study, and join together in forward momentum.
There’s no cure for the passion for percussion — it’s too contagious!
The 2021 MSM Percussion Summit builds on the positive feedback and instant reactions from last year’s percussion pow wow to generate momentum going forward and once again lifting to new vistas. The two-prong (two dose) approach of combining last year’s Summit with this year’s event is designed so that no one can return to their studies or performances with a “business as usual” mindset. We would miss out if we do not allow our year long seclusion and present emergence to impact us with meaningful adjustments to what we want to say and do in our area of percussion expertise. Let’s join together to encourage one another and share what we discovered during our seclusion so that we can all be better prepared to freely enjoy making music together once again. After all, both Summits take aim at improving all that we can do musically together. Let’s hope that we can truly make our passion for percussion contagious!
Plan to attend and invite others to scramble and claw their way out of hibernation to once again rally at Manhattan School of Music’s Percussion Summit II, July 12-16
— Christopher Lamb, Chair of the MSM Percussion Department
The five-day event will be filled with daily structured class combining repeat training from some artists, and one-time sessions from others.
The 2021 MSM Percussion Summit intends to draw together the global percussion community for 5 days no matter the time zone, place of origin or time in life.
Come out of hibernation and Summit again with us this July 12-16.

“While the world seems to have stalled, it is our time to review the bridges that can be built from the very foundations of the instruments we play, to the performers we are and can become.” Christopher Lamb Chair of the Manhattan School of Music Percussion Department
