Prescreening & Audition Procedures

Information for prospective voice students applying to Manhattan School of Music.

Voice Prescreening Requirements

You are required to submit a video recording to be considered for an invitation to a live audition. You must include the repertoire below and upload the recording directly to your application. Professional or studio recordings are not required, but the sound quality should be as good as possible.

Voice Audition Requirements

Live auditions are approximately 10 minutes in length (doctoral auditions are approximately 15 minutes). You must perform all works from memory. You will choose the first selection and the faculty will choose a second piece from the repertoire list you provide. The Chairman of the Voice Department asks that your first piece be no longer than three minutes. An accompanist is provided free of charge for all auditions. If you wish to rehearse with Manhattan School of Music’s accompanist BEFORE their audition, you may arrange rehearsal time and cost.
