Information for prospective voice students applying to Manhattan School of Music.
You are required to submit a video recording to be considered for an invitation to a live audition. You must include the repertoire below and upload the recording directly to your application. Professional or studio recordings are not required, but the sound quality should be as good as possible.
*Please note that six separate selections are required for the graduate level, i.e. an aria in Italian should count as either your aria selection OR your song in Italian, but not both. Due to time constraints, no more than two operatic arias.
A full-length recital from four contrasting style periods, including compositions in English, French, German, and Italian. The program should contain 60 minutes of music, and include no more than two operatic arias.
Live auditions are approximately 10 minutes in length (doctoral auditions are approximately 15 minutes). You must perform all works from memory. You will choose the first selection and the faculty will choose a second piece from the repertoire list you provide. The Chairman of the Voice Department asks that your first piece be no longer than three minutes. An accompanist is provided free of charge for all auditions. If you wish to rehearse with Manhattan School of Music’s accompanist BEFORE their audition, you may arrange rehearsal time and cost.
Graduate applicants must take a short diction test (approximately 15-20 minutes), covering general IPA. Applicants may take the test either before or after their scheduled audition time.

Professional Studies applicants must take a short diction test (approximately 15 to 20 minutes), covering general IPA. You may take the diction test before or after the scheduled audition time. Applicants who are not prepared with a program containing 60 minutes of music will not be heard by the faculty panel.
