The MSM Campus Store has moved to a new location just off the Student Union and now has a virtual home online.

MSM classical voice alumna Katie Copland (MM ’09, PS ’10) is the long-time manager of the MSM Campus Store. In this interview, she tells us all about the store’s new location and its very first online iteration!

Tell us about the new online store, as well as the new location of the MSM store on campus! How do you feel about these changes?

Katie: The new location of the store has given us a much-needed facelift! We love that this space was designed to be a store and we have great shelving to showcase all of our fun apparel now. We also love facing Broadway and 122^nd and having windows! It’s so nice to have a retail space that has natural light. You’ve been managing the store for quite a few years now. Why is it important for the School and for the MSM Community?

Katie: As an alumna I have watched the store go through many changes as a student, staff member for other departments, and finally for the last nine years as the manager. My goal when I started in this position was to make the store a pillar within the community, a place where students would want to stop by and say hi, where they could buy things they really needed on a daily basis, as well as to carry apparel and gift items that made them proud to represent our school.

We have been through many evolutions but each year I feel like our assortment gets better and better. It’s taken us many years, but we now carry a large assortment of musical supplies that students use to maintain their instruments, as well as clothes and merch that are functional and cool. I am always polling my staff and taking ideas from the student-body! Everyone participates in what we buy, and I have to credit my absolutely incredible team of student workers. The store would not be what it is without them; they are the heart of the school and make the store the welcoming place it is.

Any sales or deals coming up that students should know about? Anything you can recommend as a great purchase?

Katie: We usually do sales about twice a semester, along with some mini-events where we do flash sales to celebrate various holidays, school events, etc. This year our graduation sale will start at the end April so stay tuned!

Personally, I love our Champion and League sweatshirts. Champion makes such quality garments – I still have my high school swim team sweatshirt by them from 20 years ago, and it looks brand new despite having been washed hundreds of times. League is another brand that is on the cutting edge. Every year they come out with beautiful styles our students love. You can’t go wrong with a League or Champion hoodie; you’ll wear it for life.
