Manhattan School of Music (MSM) enrolls approximately 1050 students in undergraduate, graduate, post-master’s, and doctoral programs each year. Students major in performance (jazz/classical), musical theatre, and composition. Students enrolled at MSM hail from nearly all 50 states within the United States and approximately 50 countries. MSM faculty have the opportunity and the responsibility to create dynamic classes and performances, bringing musical, literary, and historical examples into their teaching to promote diversity within the curriculum, consistent with institutional policy and the transformative mission of MSM.
MSM seeks a part-time faculty member to join the Humanities Department beginning in the fall semester of 2025 or the spring semester of 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate-level Humanities courses within MSM’s Humanities Core or Elective requirement. Content for the Humanities Core follows the general course structure of MSM’s humanities department. With approval from the Dean of Academic Core (and curriculum committee, if applicable), the incumbent may propose teaching an elective course(s) supporting MSM’s mission of creating a vibrant and inclusive education environment while aligning with the individual’s academic expertise and interest. Core courses meet for three hours per week; faculty appointments require preparation, teaching, grading, and consistent engagement with student correspondence outside of class time.
The successful candidate will have evidence of teaching humanities classes at undergraduate levels and of teaching students from a variety of backgrounds, including international and first-generation students. We seek faculty who inspire students to draw connections between the subject matter and the geo-political, art and literature, culture, and other societal issues of our time.
