Precollege Faculty:Classical Horn
Liana Hoffman joined the New York City Ballet Orchestra as Second Horn in 2025. She has been an active freelancer locally since 2023, substituting in many Broadway pits and with ensembles like the New York Philharmonic and the American Ballet Theatre. Liana can also be found performing chamber music throughout the city as a member of the Riverside Brass Quintet.Â
Prior to her move to NYC, Liana regularly performed with the Houston Symphony, the North Carolina Symphony, and held the position of Fourth Horn with the Austin Symphony Orchestra from 2021-2023, a job she earned while still in school.
Liana gained a master’s degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and a bachelor’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where she returned to perform as a soloist with the MSM Symphony Orchestra in 2022. She has attended the Aspen Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Sarasota Music Festival, and the New York String Orchestra Seminar. Her primary teachers were Michelle Baker, William VerMeuleun, and Holly Ballard.
Throughout Liana’s career, she has prioritized education and community involvement by presenting accessible solo performances at schools, retirement homes, and cultural centers. She joined the Manhattan School of Music’s Precollege faculty in 2026 and has maintained an online teaching studio through Virtu.Academy since 2020.
Outside of music, Liana is frequently cooking, eating, or obsessing over her two cats, Ash and Theo.
