Jeanne Goffi-Fynn

Jeanne Goffi-Fynn is Program Director and Associate Professor of Teaching in the Program in Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her work focuses on singer development across the lifespan, applied studio pedagogy, voice across musical styles, ensemble singing, and collaborative mentoring practices. She is also a Singing Voice Specialist with particular expertise in vocal retraining for singers experiencing Muscular Tension Dysphonia.

Her scholarship has appeared in the Journal of Singing, where she serves as assistant editor, the Journal of Voice, and publications of the American Choral Directors Association and other professional organizations. Her book, Student-Centered Voice Pedagogy: Working with Students Toward Developing Artistry, Authenticity, and Autonomy, was published in 2025 by Bloomsbury Press and Rowman & Littlefield. She has presented workshops, master classes, and pedagogical sessions internationally for the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the International Congress of Voice Teachers, the American Choral Directors Association, the College Music Society, the International Society for Music Education, and The Voice Foundation.

Prior to joining Teachers College, Dr. Goffi-Fynn taught at New York University, the New School Actors Studio Master of Fine Arts Program, William Paterson University, and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She completed vocology internships at the Grabscheid Voice Center at Mount Sinai Hospital and at St. Luke’s–Roosevelt Hospital, and continues to work with singers requiring specialized vocal rehabilitation.

She is a member of the American Academy of Teachers of Singing, chairs the National Association of Teachers of Singing Mentoring Initiatives, and serves on the Board of Overseers for Opera America. She is also the Founder and Director of the Singers’ Workshops at Teachers College, a program supporting both graduate student training and the development of young singers ages eleven to eighteen. Through this program, she offers audition preparation, music theatre workshops, tenor–baritone–bass ensembles, and jazz and gospel ensembles, with performances throughout New York City including Carnegie Hall and community outreach venues.

Dr. Goffi-Fynn’s performance career spans opera, music theatre, choral work, and solo recitals featuring newly commissioned works. In summer she often serves on the faculty of the International Lyric Academy in Vicenza, Italy.
