Musical Theatre: Voice

Claudia Catania is a proud alumna of The Manhattan School of Music where 2026 marked her tenth year teaching voice in their esteemed Music Theater Department. She considers herself a true Renaissance woman in the world of vocal music. She has been seen and heard on Broadway as Marie in the Tony nominated THE MOST HAPPY FELLA and regionally including Yente in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF with Zero Mostel and Ida Straus in TITANIC at the St. Louis MUNY. She has sung over 22 roles at the Metropolitan Opera, including premieres of FRANCESCA DA RIMINI, and LE ROSSIGNOL, where she danced as partner to the great ballerina Natalia Makarova, under the direction of John Dexter, and the baton of James Levine.

In addition to her private voice studio in NYC, Ms. Catania has taught both classical voice and music theater at Boston University, The Westminster Choir College, Rider University, The Mannes College of Music, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and The Juilliard School. She has spent 23 summers teaching both in Italy for the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Wichita State University, and in the USA for the Marlena Malas Vocal Institute in Chautauqua, NY. In addition to her studies at the Manhattan School of Music, Claudia Catania is a graduate of the Center of Modern Psychoanalytic Studies in NYC. She holds degrees from both Temple University and the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis, with post grad study at The Curtis Institute of Music.

Ms. Catania consults for and teaches Presentation Skills to Fortune 500 companies including Goldman Sachs & Co. She is a licensed psychoanalyst in NY state and is a member of Actors’ Equity and AGMA. In 1987 she received the Medal of Honor from the city of Philadelphia for the world premiere of Missa Pacis. She serves on the Board of Directors of Out of the Box Theatrics, a cutting edge Equity off-Broadway company, and the esteemed Voice Foundation, where she received their Voice Education Research Awareness Award in 2008.
