Irina Edelman

Precollege Faculty:
Piano

Pianist Irina Edelman, a winner of the Lysenko National Ukraine Piano Competition, has appeared with orchestras in Kiev, Lvov, and Tbilisi and given solo and chamber music performances in Kiev, Lvov, Tbilisi, Warsaw, and Prague. Solo and chamber music performances in the United States include appearances in New York, Los Angeles, and Boston. She has also performed at the Camerino and Elba music festivals in Italy.

Irina Edelman’s students have received high honors and won first prize at competitions such as the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey, the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, the CCNY Young Musicians/Artists Competition in Staten Island, and the Queens College Cultural Heritage Competition and have performed at Merkin Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, and Steinway Hall. Her students have been accepted at Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, New England Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory, and Mannes College of Music, among other schools.
Irina Edelman graduated with honors from Lvov Conservatory, where she was a student of Alexander Eydelman, Chairman of the Piano Department, who was widely recognized as a major contributor to the Russian piano school. She also studied with Alexander Jocheles in Moscow.

A former member of the faculty of Lvov State College of Music and of the Special Music High School for Gifted Children (Lvov), Irina Edelman has been a member of the piano faculty of the Mannes Preparatory division of the New School College of Performing Arts since 1988.
