Mỹ Tâm Huynh (pronounced: mee thum hwin), aka “mitamu,” is an interdisciplinary, multi-award-winning artist who draws inspiration from all forms of storytelling. Huynh describes her music as “solarpunk” (inspired by the solarpunk art movement, Asian futurism, and climate change) and is pioneering the sound of a decolonized and sustainable future. She plans to showcase her vision in her sophomore album, come home, cyborg, projected for release in 2027.

Huynh is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music (MM ’22) and the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University (BM ’18). Upon graduating, she accepted a position at the Manhattan School of Music as a faculty member in the Jazz Arts program.

In 2025, Huynh was named the 2025 Van Lier Artist of Exceptional Merit by the Asian American Arts Alliance. In 2023, Huynh was a winner of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award and a recipient of the ASCAP Phoebe Jacobs Prize. She was also a resident composer and teaching artist for Wildflower Composers and the Asian Arts Initiative, where she led a workshop on music production using art to imagine futures, as well as premiered her first solarpunk work, be the cyborg, in Philadelphia, PA. She was also a recipient of the 2023 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Grant, through which she premiered the same work in New York, NY.

In 2023 and 2024, she was named a semi-finalist for the Next Jazz Legacy program. In 2022, Huynh won first place at the Beta Hi-Fi Emerging Artist Festival Competition. She was selected from 300 artists and performed alongside nine other finalists. Huynh is an alumna of several renowned programs, including the Banff International Workshop in Jazz & Creative Music and the Diamond Research Scholars Program (research: Jeanne Lee & the Subversion of the Jazz Vocalist). Through these opportunities, she strives to further her vision of futurism and decolonization through art.

Outside of her work as a musician, Huynh is also a comic artist and illustrator.
