Susan Quittmeyer

Mezzo Soprano Susan Quittmeyer performed regularly with the Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, Vienna State Opera, Paris Opera Garnier, Paris Opera Bastille, Bavarian State Opera, Salzburg Festival, Los Angeles Opera, Opera of Montreal, Canadian Opera Company and many others. Some of her signature opera roles are Cherubino inĀ Le Nozze di Figaro, Idamante inĀ Idomeneo, Octavaian inĀ Der Rosenkavalier, der Komponist inĀ Ariadne auf Naxos, Dorabella inĀ Cosi fan Tutte, and NicklausseĀ in LesĀ Contes d’Hoffmann. Ms. Quittmeyer also enjoyed singing the premieres of many operas, song cycles, and orchestral pieces, including works by John Harbison, Kirke Mechem, and John Eaton.
She was as busy on the concert stage in appearances with orchestra and in recital as she was in the opera house. In a diverse repertoire including works by Monteverdi, Mozart, Beethoven, Berlioz, Berg, Stravinsky, Dallapiccola, and Lerner and Lowe, she sang with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Arena di Verona Symphony, and worked with conductors including James Levine, Pierre Boulez, Raymond Leppard, Donald Runnicles, Christohph von Dohnanyi, Sir Colin Davis, and Bernard Haitink.
Ms. Quittmeyer is a passionate voice teacher for all voice categories and levels.Ā She has given masterclasses at Martina Arroyo’s Prelude to the Arts Summer Opera Program, Michigan State Universtiy, College of Music, Temple University, Santa Fe Summer Opera Program for Chinese Students, the NJ Opera Theater Institute, NJ High Schools, and others. She is an adjudicator for The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and the George London Foundation Competition.
