Silenced Scores
Rediscovering Chamber Music of WWII’s Forbidden Composers

Lucy Rubin (MM ’25), flute and Music Director

A note from Lucy: Silenced Scores: Rediscovering Chamber Music of WWII’s Forbidden Composers brings to light the suppressed voices of musicians who created profound works amidst the darkness of war and oppression. This project celebrates their resilience and artistry, offers a renewed appreciation for their contributions to music history, and prioritizes the preservation and accessibility of their music for performers and audiences today. By sharing their stories and works, we honor their legacy and ensure their music continues to inspire future generations.

Manhattan School of Music’s public programs are made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
