Happy October! With the opening of our application portal on September 1^st, we are officially in application season! Let this blog be a resource to students and families as you navigate deadlines, forms, and repertoire. While the process of applying to music school may seem daunting for first-time applicants, the MSM Admission Team is here to help.

As Step One, we recommend creating an account and starting an application today! By starting an application, you will get a sense of the materials required for submission and receive periodic reminders regarding your application progress as we approach the December 1^st deadline.

As Step Two, we recommend that you and your student look closely at the prescreening repertoire for their instrument and discipline. It may seem early, but starting to explore the repertoire now will give your student plenty of time to find reliable sheet music and reference recordings, develop a practice plan, and feel confident and prepared when it’s time to record their prescreening audition. We recommend students share this repertoire with their private lesson instructor or school music teacher for additional guidance.

In future blog posts, we will discuss other required application materials and share some tips for applicants to put their best foot forward as a student and musician! Until then, you can always reach us for any questions at admission@msmnyc.edu

Happy practicing!
