Congratulations to the winners of the 2023 Ruth Widder String Quartet Competition

The MSM Provost’s office announced the winners of the 2023 Ruth Widder Competition, a string quartet competition judged by members of the American String Quartet (in photo above). The winners performed in Greenfield Hall on April 26 at 7:30 PM.

The Ruth Widder String Quartet Competition, funded by the Widder Foundation in consultation with faculty member Laurie Carney, honors the memory of Ruth Widder, whose lifetime of generosity to Manhattan School of Music, the American String Quartet, and other arts institutions has had a lasting effect on the cultural life of New York.

“Thank you to all who participated and to the judges, the American String Quartet,” writes MSM Executive Vice President and Provost Joyce Griggs in a message to the MSM Community. “While this competition usually only awards two prizes, the judges felt there should be an honorable mention as there was a third group that demonstrated a high level of study and performance, and their efforts should not go unnoticed.”
