Meet the 2026 Residence Life Assistants

These student leaders play an important role in MSM residence life – assisting other students at MSM.

Resident Life Assistants (known more familiarly as RAs) are MSM students who are hired and trained by staff members of MSM’s Residence Life office in Student Affairs, overseen by Director of Residence Life April Jenkins and Assistant Director of Residence Life Makila Kirchner.

RAs are essential to the mission of Residence Life at MSM and help build a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment for all resident students. They have a wide variety of responsibilities that include being a peer leader, programmer, policy enforcer, community builder, and advisor to students who live in Andersen Hall.

Any student at MSM can apply to become an RA at the end of their first year.

Get to know this year’s RAs!

“My advice is to be as involved as possible. It’s hard to put yourself out there but stepping out of your comfort zone can have really rewarding outcomes!”

“My advice is to get a library card! New York Public Library cards unlock so much of the city for you by way of free events and access to lots of museums!”

“My advice is to keep a detailed to-do list and stick to it! I’ve found Google Tasks to be the best way to meet all deadlines and have time to practice.”

“My advice is to be open to everything—say yes to new things, people, and experiences. This is a chance to explore new cultures and try things you’ve never done before.”

“I advise all of my incoming colleagues to be outside and lay in the grass at Sakura Park as much as they can.”
