The 2022 Alan M. and Joan Taub Ades Vocal Competition for outstanding opera talent is taking place Wednesday, March 23 at 4 PM in the Ades Performance Space.

Of eight students nominated, five are taking part in this final round. They are Rosario Armas (BM ’20, MM ’22), Yerin Han (MM ’22), Jasmine Ismail (MM ’21, PS ’22), Hanbyeol Min (MM ’22), and Jouelle Roberson (PS ’22).

Finalists were selected through a preliminary audition; all participants in the audition were nominated by their teachers at MSM. The Alan M. and Joan Taub Ades Vocal Competition is made possible by generous support from Joan Taub and the late Alan M. Ades, longtime friends and benefactors of the School. Mrs. Taub Ades is a former member of the Manhattan School of Music Board of Trustees.

We are pleased to acknowledge the finalists from the 2020 Ades Vocal Competition who were not able to compete in the final round due to the COVID-19 pandemic: Katharine Burns (MM ’20), soprano; Tiernan Chase (MM ’20), soprano; Shelén Hughes (BM ’18, MM ’20), soprano; Christina Kushnick (MM ’20), soprano; Eunsung Lee (MM ’19, PS ’20), baritone; Jimin Park (MM ’20), baritone; Laureano Quant (MM ’20), baritone; Natalie Rumer (MM ’20), mezzo-soprano.

Past winners include Hyeree Shin (MM ’18, PS ’19), Kelly Singer (MM ’19), Hannah Fresen (MM ’19), SeokJong Baek (BM ’16, MM ’18), Hongni Wu (MM ’17, PS ’18), Shaina Martinez (MM ’18), and Philippe L’Esperance (MM ’18).
