Celebrated for its diversity, New York City is acknowledged as a cultural world capital and is a magnet for artists of great talent and ambition. Manhattan School of Music's location gives students an incomparable extended classroom, offering world-class opera, music, theater, dance, jazz, and cabaret.

There are endless opportunities to experience the best in performing arts with Broadway and Off-Broadway theaters, world-famous jazz clubs, and performance spaces on almost every block. The names of the legendary cultural institutions in New York are a catalog of excellence: Carnegie Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center, Blue Note, Metropolitan Opera, Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York Philharmonic, American Ballet Theatre, the Knitting Factory, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to name a few. The largest city in the country, New York is a center for finance, business, fashion, sports, and communications, as well as the arts.

One of the joys of New York City is the many unique and varied smaller neighborhoods such as Soho, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, and TriBeCa. There are also interesting things to do and visit beyond the island of Manhattan in the other boroughs: Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

Manhattan School of Music is situated in the Morningside Heights neighborhood on the Upper West Side. We are part of what's known as the "Academic Acropolis," because of our proximity to Columbia University, Barnard College, Teachers College, Jewish Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, and Bank Street College.

There's no better place for musicians to develop their professional talent than this exciting hub of activity.
