How to Apply for Housing

Starting in April, students who have officially confirmed their enrollment at MSM will receive a welcome email containing:

• Their MSM email address
• Their Student ID
• A link to apply for housing

Once a student confirms their enrollment, they should receive this email within one week.

Housing Application Timeline

• April 1 – Housing application opens in eReslife
• May 8– Deadline for all incoming undergraduate and graduate students to submit the housing application

How to Access the Housing Application

1. Once you receive your MSM credentials, log in to eRezLife using your MSM email and password.
2. First-time eRezLife users will need to activate their account before applying.
3. The Housing Application can be found on your Home tab under “Your Housing Applications.”

Important Reminders

Housing Requirements & Placement

• Freshman and Sophomore students are required to live on campus. All first-year and sophomore students will be placed in housing, so it is essential to meet the application deadline and submit preferences by May 8, 2025.
• Graduate and Junior Transfer students are encouraged to apply for housing. Junior students will be placed on upperclass floors, while incoming graduate students will be housed together as space allows.

Housing for Summer English Study (SES) Students

• Freshman SES Students must live on campus for the entire academic year. These students must submit:

  • A Summer Housing Application (for the SES program)
  • A Housing Application for the 2026-2027 academic year
  • Both applications are available in eRezLife and are due by May 8, 2026.

• Graduate SES Students must live on campus during the SES program but will not automatically have housing for the academic year.

  • If you would like housing for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, you must submit a Housing Application in addition to your SES requirements.
  • Both the Summer Housing Application and the Housing Application for 2026-2027 are in eRezLife and must be submitted by May 8, 2026.

Below are the housing rates from the 2026–2027 academic year. 

Please note: The below listed rates do not include winter break housing.

Triple Room: $9,950

Double Room: $12,550

Single Room: $18,200

Premium Single: $19,600

 

 

Below are the meal plan rates from the 2026–2027 academic year.

All MSM students are required to participate in a declining balance meal plan. The cost of the plan is loaded on your ID card to spend at the dining hall à la carte. Meal plan balances roll over from the Fall Semester to the Spring Semester but they do not roll over from year to year.

The following descriptions should help you find the best meal plan for you:

• Gold Plan:  $6,700
  The gold plan is for students who plan to eat mostly in the MSM cafeteria.
• Silver Plan: $5,090
  The silver plan is a mid-range plan for students who want to find a good balance between eating in the cafeteria as well as enjoying local eateries off campus.
• Bronze Plan: $3,870
  The bronze plan is built for students who like the convenience of eating on-campus but plan to eat most of their meals off-campus.

Note: Students select their meal plan when completing their housing application.

Housing Accommodation Requests

Students who require housing accommodations due to medical, psychological, or disability-related needs must complete the process outlined below. This may include physical health conditions, mental health concerns, or other documented disabilities.

Step 1: Have Your Medical Provider Complete the Physician Verification Form

The Physician Verification Form must be completed and signed by an appropriately licensed medical or mental health professional, such as a physician, psychiatrist, psychologist, or licensed counselor.

Step 2: Submit the Housing Accommodation Request Form

After your provider completes the Physician Verification Form, you must submit the Housing Accommodation Request Form and upload the completed documentation.

Accommodation requests are not considered complete until both the student request form and required documentation have been submitted.

Priority Consideration Dates

To ensure the greatest likelihood of receiving an accommodation based on availability, students are strongly encouraged to submit all required materials by the following date:

Incoming Students: May 1

Requests submitted after these dates will still be reviewed. However, availability may be limited due to housing selection and room assignment timelines.

Housing Exemption Requests

MSM is committed to cultivating a vibrant community of musicians, and living on campus is an important part of becoming fully engaged in that artistic environment. For this reason, all first-year and sophomore students are required to live on campus.

Students who believe they qualify for an exemption must submit a Housing Exemption Request along with the required documentation outlined below. Exemption requests are not considered complete until all required materials have been submitted.

Deadline to submit form & documentation:

• Continuing Students: March 31
• Incoming Students: April 1

Submission of documentation does not guarantee approval. All exemption requests are subject to review.

Required Documentation by Exemption Category

1. Age 21 or Older

Students who are 21 years of age or older must submit official proof of date of birth. Acceptable documentation includes:

• A valid driver’s license
• State-issued identification card
• Passport
• Another official government-issued photo ID that includes date of birth

2. Married Students

Students requesting an exemption based on marital status must submit:

• A copy of their official marriage certificate

3. Parent or Legal Guardian of a Dependent Child

Students requesting an exemption due to responsibility for a dependent child must submit documentation verifying guardianship. Acceptable documentation may include:

• Birth certificate
• Adoption certificate
• Court-issued guardianship documentation

4. Living with a Family Member in New York City

Students requesting to live with a family member within New York City must submit all of the following:

• A signed letter from the family member stating that the student will reside with them while attending MSM
• An official document showing proof of the family member’s address, such as a utility bill or lease
• Documentation demonstrating that the commute from the residence to MSM is approximately one hour or less, such as a Google Maps route showing travel time

All documentation must clearly reflect the address where the student will reside.
