Precollege Faculty:Conductor - String Ensemble
Gregory Krajci is a multi-faceted and passionate conductor, educator, performer, and clinician whose background and training led to a career in music, theatre, and dance. He is the Director of Orchestras at W. Tresper Clarke High School in the East Meadow School District where he conducts two thriving performing orchestras, both of which earn consistent top honors at festival competitions. The Clarke HS Chamber Orchestra will be competing on the high school competition track at the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Orchestra Festival in March 2025 in Atlanta, GA. Prior to joining the East Meadow faculty, Mr. Krajci was the orchestra teacher at H. Frank Carey High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District for six years, where he built students from absolute beginners in 7th grade to two high school performing orchestras winning consistent competitive festival honors. Mr. Krajci joined the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division as the String Ensemble conductor in September 2024.
Mr. Krajci is very active in the music education and performance communities. He is currently a violinist with the South Shore Symphony Orchestra, taught elementary chamber music and music and movement at Mannes Prep, and is a coach and guest conductor for the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York. He has conducted county and regional festival orchestras of all ages across New York and New Jersey. Mr. Krajci has been an active member of the Nassau Music Educators Association (NMEA) since he began teaching and sat on the Executive Board from April 2018-April 2023, where he spearheaded the team responsible for creating the Division 5 String Orchestra to provide an equal opportunity for 11th and 12th grade string students to perform in the NMEA All-County Festivals. He has presented sessions relating to string pedagogy and performing arts teaching practices at various conferences and serves as a NYSSMA Solo and All-State Festival adjudicator.
Mr. Krajci graduated from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam (BM with Honors, summa cum laude) and Shenandoah Conservatory at Shenandoah University (MM) with degrees in Music Education, and completed long-term Suzuki Method teacher-training in Violin Units 1-8 at the Hartt Suzuki Institute. Principal teachers and mentors include Dr. Sarah Hersh, Kenneth Andrews, Sgt. Judith Spokes Cho, Jeffrey Brous, Dr. Susan Baer, Dr. Stephanie Standerfer, and Dr. David Zerull. Mr. Krajci’s mission is to share his love of music with students of all ages and backgrounds through engaging and diverse programming to bring the musicians and audience together.
As a theatre and dance educator, he began dancing at age 4 and is trained in ballet, modern, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, Ballroom, and Latin styles. He has taught dance masterclasses, presented at conferences for professional development, and was a Principal Dancer for the Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts’ annual production of The Nutcracker from 2013-2022. At W.T. Clarke High School, Mr. Krajci is the director and choreographer for the Theatre Arts Society and teaches his self-designed curricular theatre course sequence. Mr. Krajci graduated from the University of Houston with an MA degree in Theatre and holds public school teaching certificates in both Music and Theater in New York State. His students have been consistently recognized for their work on and off the stage by the Roger Rees Awards program sponsored by the Broadway Education Alliance. Mr. Krajci believes the theatre has a place for everyone, where conversations can begin and bonds can be strengthened between performers, audience, administrators, and community stakeholders.
