Living in Community

The Office of Residence Life is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging residential experience in Andersen Hall. Living on campus is more than having a place to sleep—it is an opportunity to build relationships, develop independence, and become an active member of the Manhattan School of Music community.

Our team works in partnership with residents to foster a respectful and supportive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and personally. The following outlines what residents can expect from Residence Life and what Residence Life expects from residents in return.

Students Can Expect Residence Life To:

• Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive residential environment

• Treat each resident with dignity and respect for their unique experiences and perspectives

• Communicate in a clear, timely, and transparent manner

• Provide trained staff available 24/7 to support residents and respond to emergencies

• Offer programs and initiatives that build community, encourage connection, and celebrate the diversity of our residents

• Provide opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and skill development

• Connect students with campus resources that support their well-being and success

• Partner with students and student organizations to enhance the residential experience

Residence Life Expects Residents To:

• Treat fellow residents, staff, and community members with respect and consideration

• Contribute positively to the residential and campus community

• Take responsibility for their actions and follow residential policies and procedures

• Communicate promptly and respond to important Residence Life communications

• Engage with available resources and seek support when needed

• Understand that community living requires balance and that, at times, the needs of the broader community may take precedence over individual preferences
