Charles Myers Recording Studio

Open throughout the summer for your next recording session! Read more >

Manhattan School of Music’s Charles Myers Recording Studio provides a variety of professional audio and recording services to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the community at large. Information on the services provided can be obtained from this page, or by visiting the departmental office, located in Room 234.

Myers Recording Studio features a state-of-the-art digital multitrack facility capable of recording events in the School’s main performance spaces. These include concerts, operas, special gala events, master classes, and faculty recitals. Additionally, the studio is available for recording student recitals, private sessions, assembling audition and demo CDs, audio media transfers, and CD duplication services. Other services include a permanent audio archive collection of many Manhattan School of Music performances, master classes and concerts that are performed each year and are available for listening purposes in the Peter Jay Sharp Library. As well, panel discussions and workshops on recording and recording-related topics such as producing a demo CD or copyright awareness are offered on an ongoing basis.

Myers Recording Studio is part of the Recording & Distance Learning Department at Manhattan School of Music. In addition to extensive recording services, this department also produces interactive videoconference programs involving students and faculty members in events such as one-on-one lessons, master classes, educational & community outreach, and professional development sessions. The department regularly connects with artistic organizations, K-12 schools, and institutions of higher education to host and participate in these events. Frequent partners include Canada’s National Arts Centre, the New World Symphony, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, and numerous K-12 schools throughout the country.

“The recorded sound is warm, very well balanced, and natural in its atmosphere.”

— Henry Fogel
Fanfare (September/October 1998), commenting on Daniel Catán’s opera Rappaccini’s Daughter, recorded live at MSM in 1997 for Newport Classics, Ltd.

“Everyone involved in this project has done such a superb job of creating while re-creating, that [this CD] has a rightful place in one’s library.”

— Jazztimes
