Students in the Musical Theatre program take part in more than a half dozen productions a year, including Senior Showcase, attended by invited New York theater professionals.
A real-world musical theatre training experience that only New York City can provide, taught by Broadway performers and creators.
Manhattan School of Music’s prestigious Musical Theatre Program is the only stand-alone conservatory program in New York City. Our program attracts professional artist-teacher faculty and guest artists many of whom have created and performed in some of Broadway’s greatest shows such as Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, Chicago, and countless others. Students receive comprehensive training in musical theatre culminating in a fully-accredited Bachelor’s degree.
MSM Musical Theatre students have many yearly performance opportunities including: Four fully-produced book musicals, one musical in development, Freshman Hello! and Senior Showcase. All MSM productions are directed, choreographed and designed by professional, working theatre artists. In addition we offer professional musical theatre writers the opportunity to workshop material with our students and we encourage students to produce independent performance projects.

The theater program at MSM gets better every year. This is so good you will think you are on Broadway. Maybe even better! Where do you get a 25+ piece orchestra and a 25+ chorus and group of such talented young singers. And what a show! It is a romp!!!!
Manhattan School of Music students and faculty are awesome. What a great show! It was the second musical theater show which I have seen there! High quality singing and acting!
An energetic, exhilarating production with great audience involvement performed by an outstanding troupe as I have come to expect from the Manhattan School of Music. Best revival of this show since 2012.
A delightful show for everyone. The staging was excellent, costumes terrific, talent galore, and a funny and challenging story to boot. I thoroughly enjoyed this production with so much young talent. Sorry it is only on for a few nights–after all their hard work.
It’s a college production but professional in every way. Some future musical theater stars on that stage with terrific voices & fine acting. Remember it’s The Manhattan School of Music & they know real talent.

Recent MSM Musical Theatre graduate Alysia Velez (BM ’22) made her Broadway debut as Rapunzel in the critically acclaimed, star-studded revival of Into the Woods. The hit production of Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s beloved musical opened on July 10, 2022. The cast included Sara Bareilles, Gavin Creel, Joshua Henry, Bryan d’Arcy James, Patina Miller, and Phillipa Soo.
